Martha Jane "M.J." Campbell, 87, of Burlington, died at 12:50 AM Sunday, July 18, 2010, at her home at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born January 12, 1923, in Birmingham, IA, she was the daughter of Ira E. and Katie Hester Holmes Jameson. On April 23, 1948, she married James Kenneth Campbell in Washington, Iowa. He died September 4, 1992. |
M. J. retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a Government Inspector.
She attended Fairfield High School.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, embroidery guild, several bridge clubs, Disabled American Veterans Post 4 auxiliary, and the union at I.A.A.P. She enjoyed cross stitching, sewing, quilting, bluegrass music, traveling and attending bluegrass festivals with her husband, Jim and Jaime all across the United States, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and her West Highland Terrier dogs. |
Survivors include two sons, Chris (Peggy) Christensen of Port Townsend, WA; Michael J. (Sally) Campbell of Burlington; two daughters, Tamela (Matthew) Meyer of Burlington and Jaime (Matthew) Heuvelmann both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Corey Campbell, Kellie Campbell, Carson Heuvelmann, Brady Heuvelmann; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Jennesse McClaran. |
Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Campbell will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 23, 2010, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Hass-Thielen Community Room following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Des Moines County Humane Society. |
